I'd purchased and maintained 1Password licenses for macOS, iOS, Windows and Android since version 2 of the Mac app was released, but recent developments have me running out of patience for their shenanigans rather quickly.

Along with LittleSnitch, 1Password used to be one of the very first apps I'd install on any new machine and without which I'd seriously have considered switching to another platform where it was available. It really is quite sad to see how far AgileBits/1Password have veered into straight-up sleaze territory. a simple "if the user already uses the online service do not show him the ad". You'd think they'd be able to at the very least add the most basic of logic to their idiotic in-app ads. Oh man, that just makes the situation stupid and embarrassing on 1Password's end. Ungoogled-Chromium seems like the best option. And since I don't plan on ever upgrading my current phone and my Macs to new iOS/macOSes that will have spyware pre-installed, I can't rely on Safari long-term. You simply cannot run a new Safari on an older OS. Apple has crippled Safari's web extensions so a lot of extension developers simply don't bother.Īnother major issue (to me) is that Apple has been tying Safari to specific OSes. Safari support for KeepassXC is being worked on but it mostly depends on what Apple does since Apple is not providing adequate extension APIs for Safari. I am also moving to Ungoogled-Chromium as my primary browser and KeepassXC extension works perfectly with it. You also don't have to pay for "pro" versions to get U2F support.
And not being "cloud" based is a massive plus. It's also free, open-source and is being actively worked on with a healthy community behind it. If you couple it with U2F, I don't think anything can break it. It's by far the most secure solution I could find. I am currently preparing to move away from Bitwarden to KeepassXC.
